California Mineral Production Reports and Data

Annual Reports of Non-Fuel Mineral Production (2001‑2020)

The value of various mineral commodities produced in 2020, in millions of dollars. This is Figure 2 from the 2020 Non-Fuel Mineral Production report.

The California Geological Survey publishes annual summaries of the state’s mineral resource production exclusive of oil, gas, coal, and geothermal energy. The most recent report covers the 2020 production year.

For 2020, California remained one of the largest producers of non-fuel minerals in the United States. Specifically, California ranked fourth—behind Nevada, Arizona, and Texas—in non-fuel mineral production, accounting for approximately 5.7 percent of the nation’s total. This report discusses the commodities produced as well as trends in commodity production. The report is based on data reported by mine operators to the California Division of Mine Reclamation (DMR).

Historical Mineral Commodity Production Records and Data Dashboard (1958-1969)

This section offers access to part of our catalog of historical mineral commodity production records. The records provide detailed annual production data by county. We scanned these records to PDF from original typed and handwritten paper documents created by the California Division of Mines and Geology during the middle of the 20th century. To see these data visualized as a map and graphs, visit our California Historical Mineral Production interactive data dashboard. To download the scanned records, proceed to the section below, "Downloading the scanned records."
