California voters approved The California Drought, Water, Parks, Climate Coastal Protection, and Outdoor Access for All Act of 2018 (Proposition 68) on June 5th, 2018. Proposition 68 is codified as Division 45 of the Public Resources Code. Proposition 68 aims to:
- invest state funds to protect, restore, and enhance natural resources of critical importance to the state; and,
- support the planning, development, and implementation of climate adaptation and resiliency projects.
Proposition 68 allocates $20 million to the Department of Conservation "to protect, restore, or enhance working lands and riparian corridors through conservation easements or other conservation actions, including actions pursuant to [Public Resources Code section] 9084 and the California Farmland Conservancy Program [.]" Up to $10 million is available for "watershed restoration and conservation projects on agricultural lands pursuant to [Public Resources Code section] 9084."
