Inspections of surface mines must be conducted by an inspector who has a Certificate of Completion of an inspection training workshop on file with the Lead Agency and DMR no later than July 1, 2020. Surface mine inspectors must renew their certificate of completion every five years.
Description: This workshop will train lead agency staff on how to observe and document current conditions of surface mining operations for determining compliance with SMARA. Each workshop consists of one day of classroom training (8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and a half day of field training (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) at a local mine site. For ease of attendance, DMR is offering inspection training workshops in different regions of the state.
The workshop program is based upon content in the
Guidance Document for Surface Mine Inspectors. Topics include:
- Inspection requirements
- Inspection goals and objectives
- How to prepare for the mine inspection
- how to conduct the mine inspection
Target Audience: Designed to train lead agency staff and their consultants who conduct inspections of surface mining operations. These workshops are open to the public, however registration priority is provided to lead agency staff and consultants working for lead agencies that are directly involved in conducting mine inspections. Others will be placed on a waiting list and added as space is available.
Current Workshop Schedule
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, DMR is developing an online method to conduct workshops. Although a schedule is forthcoming, please be patient as we develop this training.
