Kathryn Lyddan is the Assistant Director for the Department of Conservation’s Division of Land Resource Protection. She joined the Division in December 2016 and will guide it in providing tools and implementing programs to help Californians make wise land-use decisions regarding some of the most productive farmland and diverse open spaces in the world.

Before joining the Department, Kathryn served as the Executive Director of the nonprofit Brentwood Agricultural Land Trust (BALT), focusing on preserving Contra Costa County’s productive agricultural land and building a vibrant local agricultural economy on the urban edge of the Bay Area. Prior to her work with BALT, Kathryn practiced municipal finance law at a private law firm. She co-authored Sustaining Our Bounty (2011) and Triple Harvest: Farmland conservation for climate protection, smart growth and food security in California (2013).
