Local Community Conservation Corps

Local Community Conservation Corps

The Local Community Conservation Corps (LCCCs) are different from the state-managed California Conservation Corps (CCC). They are non-profit charitable organizations governed by volunteer Boards of Directors, whose primary goal is: to provide youth between the ages of 18 and 23 with a one-year non-residential program that emphasizes work; education; skill building; and, community service.

The most important thing the LCCCs do is to develop the leader in everyone.

Through funding from the Department and various city, county and private organizations, the LCCCs create jobs and educational opportunities for over 2,000 California young women and men, and provide a solid foundation for public service through hundreds of community service projects.

The corps initiates innovative recycling programs through partnerships forged with a variety of schools, public agencies and local organizations. These partnerships complement existing services, further state and county waste studies and help establish conservation goals.

Corpsmembers provide volunteer services and assist in reducing waste going to landfills, they educate the public about recycling (why, how and where), they improve the environment, and they beautify and promote safe communities.
