Staff Services Management Auditor is an entry-level classification for individuals interested in becoming professional auditors. This classification is used in a wide range of auditing and investigation programs and may involve extensive travel to businesses both statewide and outside the state. They have the opportunity to work from three Division of Recycling field offices, located in Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Work in this classification involves research and analysis as well as assessment and enforcement of compliance with the California Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act and the associated California Code of Regulations.

The types of programs that use the Staff Services Management Auditor classification are:

  • Field audits of accounting books and records of program participants (i.e., beverage manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and recyclers).

  • Full scope audits and limited review audits.

  • Conducting training sessions for program participants.

  • Reviewing completed audit reports for accuracy and consistency.

  • Fraudulent activity investigations.

Minimum qualifications for admittance into the Staff Services Management Auditor exam

The minimum qualifications for the Staff Services Management Auditor classification are as follows:

RANGES A, B, AND C
Education Requirements: Equivalent to graduation from college, preferably with a major in accounting, business administration, public administration, or economics and with a minimum of six semester units of accounting. Registration as a senior in a recognized institution will admit applicants to examinations for Staff Services Management Auditor, but they must produce evidence of graduation or its equivalent before they can be considered eligible for appointment.

Experience Requirements: No experience required. Applicants must meet the education requirements.
