California Farmland Conservancy Program
The California Farmland Conservancy Program (CFCP) seeks to encourage the long-term, private stewardship of agricultural lands through the voluntary use of agricultural conservation easements. The CFCP provides grant funding for easement and planning projects that support agricultural land conservation statewide. As of January 2015, CFCP funded more than 175 conservation easements, permanently conserving some of the state's best farmland in agricultural regions throughout the state.

NEW! CFCP Annual Monitoring Form - Easement holders were sent CFCP's new form for annual monitoring of agricultural conservation easements in spring 2015. Please see the
forms page for a digital version of CFCP's annual reporting form.
Other forms have been updated in 2014 as well, please check the page and download the most recent information.
Farmland Mitigation - The Department is now accepting grant applications to purchase agricultural conservation easements to offset farmland loss associated with the California High-Speed Rail alignment in Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, Santa Clara, and Tulare Counties . The Department will work with eligible organizations to identify landowners interested in placing land into agricultural conservation easements. The program seeks to purchase easements on land comparable to that taken out of production for the High-Speed Rail system. Please click here for more information and instructions on how to apply.
CFCP's Newest Project - 160 acres of rice land in Sutter County.
This project is among the 25 agricultural conservation easements completed using CFCP funds since 2010. Orchards, vineyards, vegetable crop lands, alfalfa, and irrigated pastures were represented among the recent completed easements.
Request for Grant Applications
CFCP has multiple Requests for Grant Applications (RFGAs), which are specific to the source of funds. Each RFGA provides detailed guidelines for application eligibility and instructions for the application process.
Model Agricultural Easement
A model agricultural easement is used to expedite the easement review process. CFCP has a few variations of the model, each is specific to the funding source (e.g., CFCP, SALC Program, HSR, etc). All versions are based on CFCP's 2012 model easement document.
