  • April 4, 2010 - Baja Earthquake

    A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck northern Baja California 40 miles south southeast of Calexico, Sunday, April 4, 2010.  The Sierra El Mayor earthquake was felt over the southern California region and as far away as Las Vegas, Nevada... Click here to learn more about the earthquake.

  • March 22 - 26, 2010 - Tsunami Awareness and Preparedness Week

    The California Geological Survey has new tsunami educational materials: student worksheets, poster, videos, brochures, K-12 tsunami curriculum and activity links. Includes step by step guide to locating tsunami inundation areas in the state, information on California tsunamis, and emergency preparedness information.  Click here to download tsunami educational materials.

  • Interactive map forecasting strong shaking anywhere in California within 24-hours released by the U.S. Geological Survey

  • The U.S. Geological Survey has released an interactive map showing the probability that ground shaking exceeding Modified Mercalli Intensity VI will occur anywhere in California in the next 24-hours.  The probability is represented by a shaded color scale on the statewide map.  View the map.

    The 1868 Hayward Earthquake Alliance was formed to help coordinate and promote efforts and activities between organizations throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area planning to commemorate the earthquake. Click here for more information.
