Beverage Container Recycling - Home

Welcome to the Division of Recycling. We're here to help you find information on how to preserve and conserve our natural resources.

Californians Recycle

  • Californians Recycle.
Californians bought 21.9 billion carbonated and non-carbonated drinks in aluminum, glass, plastic and bi-metal containers last year. More than 16.1 billion of those containers were recycled, saving natural resources, conserving energy and extending the life of our landfills. Imagine what we’ll accomplish if we recycle the other 5.8 billion!
  • Find A Nearby Recycling Center
Just enter your zip code to find a bottle & can redemption center near you.
  • California Refund Value
Consumers pay CRV (California Refund Value) when they purchase beverages from a retailer, which is refunded when they redeem the containers at a recycling center. Effective January 1, 2007, CRV paid to consumers when they recycle containers at recycling centers will increase to 5¢ for each beverage container less than 24 ounces and 10¢ for each container 24 ounces or greater.
  • Important Notice Regarding State IOUs
Payments to Processors and Recyclers Will Not Be Affected
The State Controller’s Office announcement regarding the issuance of IOUs will not impact Beverage Container Recycling Program payments. The State Controller’s Office will continue to issue warrants for payment of certified claims submitted by the Department of Conservation which are funded by the Beverage Container Recycling Fund.
